Open-source kitchen design software
OpenKitchen3D's application, project schema and catalog schema are MIT licensed. Your kitchen is a documented file you own — not a record in someone else's account.
Architecture
OpenKitchen3D is a kitchen-specific domain layer over the shared OpenPlan3D engine (SvelteKit, TypeScript and Three.js):
OpenPlan3D room geometry
↓
Kitchen layout + snapping + validation
↓
Parametric cabinet / product graph
↓
2D symbols · elevations · real-time 3D
↓
BOM · pricing · reports · exchange formats A native SwiftUI companion owns RoomPlan capture, AR preview and platform integration; the shared TypeScript engine owns editing, cabinet rules, catalogs, pricing and exports.
Licensing
- Code and schemas: MIT, matching OpenPlan3D.
- Dependencies: permissive licences (MIT, BSD, Apache-2.0) only.
- GPL projects such as Sweet Home 3D and IngeTrazo are studied as references for behaviour and ideas — their code is not copied in.
- Catalog assets carry their own explicit licences, recorded in each package.
Contributing
The most useful contributions right now:
- Measured kitchen layouts (anonymised) to use as solver test fixtures.
- Cabinet construction presets — North American face-frame, European frameless.
- Feedback from kitchen designers and cabinetmakers on the catalog draft.
- Engine improvements in OpenPlan3D that kitchens build on.
